Dear GSL-help

I have encountered errors when running the test.c unit test in ROOTS supplied
by GSL.

A bit of background. I have downloaded the GSL source code and compiled it for
both 32 bit and 64 bit Windows. I've used MS VC to compile since we have this
already and wanted to prove that our porting works before using another
compiler like Intel C/C++.

Then I ran the tests on selected packages in GSL. These are the test.c files
supplied in the folder of each of the packages. The tests which have been
successful are:
cdf, specfun, rng, randist, eigen, sort, min, multimin, poly.

The packages which Failed are: roots, multiroots.
As an example, the error messages from running test.c in roots is:
FAIL: [1021695]
FAIL: [1021697]
FAIL: [1021699]
FAIL: [1021712]
FAIL: [1021714]
FAIL: [1021726]
FAIL: [1021728]
FAIL: [1021730]
FAIL: [1021756]
FAIL: [1021757]
FAIL: [1021758]
FAIL: [1021760]
FAIL: [1021762]
FAIL: [1021764]

I know there may be no official support for my own GSL Windows port. But I
would like to ask some general questions.

1. Has anyone encountered any errors while running the roots/test.c? I assume,
this test is run before GSL release its distribution - but I just want to ask
anyway - and also maybe other users have tried this test.c themselves.

2. The error message above seems to be in a particular format. How do I
interpret them so I can poke around the code myself to debug? What do the
numbers actually represent?

Thanks for your help.
