[Help-gsl] A question about GSL library

Dear GSL-help list, 
our System Admin has installed the GSL library on Sun Solaris machine in the 
library /usr/local/lib 
but I cannot see the files with .so extension there. For example, 
$cd /usr/local/lib 
$ls libgsl.* 

gives me 
libgsl.a and libgsl.la . 

May it be that we missed smth in the installation?
