I wish to install linux systems (LinuxMint and Solydxk) on a gpt partitioned disk.

The computer is a CompuLabs FitPc3Pro.

The BIOS is Phoenix SBC_2.1.0.333_14X64.

fitpc3 martin # gdisk -l /dev/sda

GPT fdisk (gdisk) version 0.8.10

Partition table scan:

MBR: protective

BSD: not present

APM: not present

GPT: present

Found valid GPT with protective MBR; using GPT.

Disk /dev/sda: 468862128 sectors, 223.6 GiB

Logical sector size: 512 bytes

Disk identifier (GUID): 5C7CFE3E-1CB1-4585-BE60-B38AEB42B331

Partition table holds up to 128 entries

First usable sector is 34, last usable sector is 468862094

Partitions will be aligned on 2048-sector boundaries

Total free space is 301948013 sectors (144.0 GiB)

Number Start (sector) End (sector) Size Code Name

1 2048 4095 1024.0 KiB EF02 bios_grub

2 4096 30724095 14.6 GiB 8300 /lmde2root

8 111620096 142340095 14.6 GiB 8300

9 142340096 166916095 11.7 GiB 8300

fitpc3 martin # grub-install /dev/sda

Installing for i386-pc platform.

Installation finished. No error reported.

(Only one system is presently installed.)

Upon trying to start the system the bios presents the main disk description (ATA HDD0: Kingstonxxxxxxxxxxxx) and nothing else.

Where have I gone wrong?
