Downloaded your latest current development version of grub-mkrescue 
(2.02 beta2), burned to cd and booted to grub prompt. Typed in "halt" at 
prompt, with same results - system powers down and restarts again.

This happens with all the following grub versions -

Kubuntu Xenial - 2.02-beta2-32ubuntu1
Kubuntu Wily   - 2.02-beta2-29ubuntu0.2
Manjaro testing- 2.02-beta2-14
KaOS    testing- 2.01.81-1                [*]


If this does not happen with your system, perhaps then it is a bios 
firmware problem at my end? If this is so, then I am satisfied that grub 
2 is working properly. A confirmation (that it works at your end) will 
be good. A suggestion on how to update my firmware [**] will be better.

[*] - KaOS default installation comes with bootctl (systemd bootloader)
but can be made to install with grub 2 by installing efivars and
efibootmgr at install media and adding /boot/efi instead of
/boot as mount point in ESP.
