I was using grub legacy 0.97 (due to our system was very old). I am trying to upgrade to grub2 now. but I hope upgrading to grub2 would solve it. 

do you have any suggestion for upgrade to grub2?

OK but in any case it's a grub legacy vernacular being used, rather than GRUB2. What version of GRUB are you using?
