Hi, thanks for your answer! core.img is in the filesystem at /boot/grub/ (at me also ~26 kB) in my linux partition. But I'm asking for the part of grub, which is not in the filesystem, outside the partition.core.img is *the* part of grub which is installed in MBR gap. Besides boot sector itself of course.
Aha, so does that mean, that the bytes in the hidden sectors are always a 100 % copy of /boot/grub/core.img ?
So if I shrink the gap before 1st partition to a size, bigger than core.img, I'm save not having damaged GRUB 2 installation?
-UlfBTW: So I'm wondering if core.img on a USB-Pendrive-Ubuntu is little smaller to fit in the remaining 31 sectors.
