Errors building GRUB 0.97

[grub-essentia]

Hi,

I'm trying to build GRUB 0.97 (I am told newer GRUB doesn't work with what I am trying to boot).
However, I get errors doing so (config.log is below).

I am running Fedora 16.
Can anyone point me to what I need to build this (what libraries, if any, I am missing, which are incompatible, etc).

I would appreciate it.
