I have an old machine with a copy of FC6 on it. The boot drive died so
I had to replace it. It was part of a md raid-1 array so I put the
partition table back on it and then added it back to the array which
then synced it. I reinstalled the original MBR onto the new drive and
then rebooted expecting the machine to boot. But I got the GRUB prompt
instead. So I get out my GRUB boot disk and boot the machine. Then I
run grub:
# cat /boot/grub/device.map
(hd0) /dev/hde
(hd1) /dev/hdg
# grub
grub> root (hd0,0)
grub> find /grub/menu.lst (finds it)
grub> setup (hd0) (normal output)
grub> setup (hd1) (normal output)
grub> quit
So now reboot again and this time the machine starts booting and then
quickly flashes something about stage 1.5 and then I hear the boot drive
click and then the machine reboots. So now we're stuck in a loop.
Can someone show me what might be wrong here?
Regards,
Gerry
