I want to install Lilypond and have read the requirements for running under
Linux.  I have everything except a late enough version of guile.  I have
guile-1.3-10 installed.  I downloaded guile-1.3.4-11.i386.rpm and tried to
install it but I got an error message telling me:

can only install packages with major version number <=3 with this version
of RPM

It doesn't install.  This strikes me as odd.  What is the 'major' number?
I thought it would be the first and/or second number.  I have a RedHat 6.2
(with Helix_Gnome desktop).
