yes maybe, if the tasks repeat and are basically simple. Than you could use some python or perl too.
no, if it's seldom or tricky.
sed, awk etc. don't have such a thing like edebug for example.

You are saying that if the task is not simple then lisp would be a better way to go right?
Hey Teemu ... Are you suggesting common lisp because emacs lisp would fall short in some situations?
