Poor performance is a bug.
To send a bug report, click on Help, select Send Bug Report...

As I said, I use emacs remotely all the time.

I actually one of the reasons I moved from XEmacs to Emacs was
the greatly improved performance.

The specific issue you are having has to do with dired and
it's "hover" feature.  I was hoping someone would explain
how to turn the too helpful feature off.

I might dig into dired myself, but no promises.
