Spacing problem when using ps font face different from Courier |

Hi, all.
If I set a postscript font face different from the default Courier:
e.g. Times, or Helvetica, when I postscript print the buffer
the spaces I put in the file at beginning of each line are changed:
they are smaller.
Why, and how to avoid that undesired effect?
Thanks,
Rodolfo
