I have implemented a very simple python-glpk interface, available in 
  http://www.ncc.up.pt/~jpp/code/python-glpk/

Is this the one you tried?  If yes, please let me know the details of
the segfault.  (This version works only with glpk version 4.16, and is
only tested in Linux.)
