Re: [help-GIFT] install GIFT

Hi Rahayu,
thanks for pointing us to this problem (Ubuntu). Would you be interested in actually compiling & installing a new version of GIFT "by hand"? Are you able to receive big e-Mails?

Charmer is rarely a problem. The overwhelming majority of users who report problems have in fact problems with JAVA's rights management.

Cheers,
Wolfgang

I'm using the gnuift package that comes with Ubuntu. The gift-config.mrml did not generate automatically when i indexed the collection.

As for the client, I used the SnakeCharmer listed on the webpage. But, when I tried to unpack it, it doesn't work. Its not the same as the one stated in the gift-guide.txt. In the webpage, it says that it a new version. Do you have the older version, Charmer-0.2.tar?

thank you.

Rahayu

What are you using, currently? GIFT as provided by Ubuntu? I think this should interest the Ubuntu folks, then.

The gift-config.mrml should be automatically generated if it is not there on indexing a collection.

GIFT is a server, and one needs a client to connect to that server.

Cheers,
Wolfgang

Hi,

I've tried locating gift-config.mrml, but I don't seem to have it...so, how @ where can I get it?
Once this is settled, do I need to index the images again before starting gift? By the way, how do I know what port am I using?
Finally(for now...;) Henning told me that I also need a client interface to actually use a started gift server with a database...what does he mean by that?

Thanks in advance

Rahayu

cd ; ls gift-config.mrml && gift

means: Go to your home folder. then see if there is gift-config.mrml, if this is the case, start gift.

Cheers,
Wolfgang

*if* you have gift-config.mrml, starting is would be a good thing.

Best,
Wolfgang

This might not be very well document but you should find this in the
GIFT readmes. There is a command gift-add-collection.pl Calling this
perl script with the option --help will give you all the parametres
required.

The easiest interface to use might be the php interface available from
the web pages. If your PC is accessible from the Internet you can also
use an existing interface such as the one on
http://medgift.unige.ch/demo/ and connect to your IP address and the
port you started GIFT with.

There is indeed very little documentation on GIFT and it will require
some manual work.

Cheers, Henning
