If you are doing a master's degree, this might be the moment where you look into rights and who has them in Linux.

This is surely not a waste of time.

The stuff probably would work if you were running the stuff as super user.

.\configure works but make install doesnt it produce the follwing

So, please install automake, autoconf and libtool.

You can do so by typing automake (and then later autoconf and libtool) into the commandline and then install the package suggested by ubuntu.

what shall i do now?

 There should be a directory called "gift" in there. Change into that directory and try to do

./bootstrap-cvs.sh

if this passes without error do

./configure --prefix ~/gift-install && make all install
