[help-gift]errors occured when i try to connect to gift server

Hi,Merry Spring Festival.
There is a problem in my GIFT,   I have been suffered for a long time.
    If I started apache http service ,everything is ok.
    If apache is not started, images can not be displayed in charmer, you can only see empty frames.

     This problem has been talked about in gift-started.txt,   described as below,but I still don't know how to fix it.   Is it nessesary to fix it?

    http:// URLs. "Problems" means, that they simply were neither
  downloaded nor displayed. "Uncool", in a word. The opposite now

  shown, if they are specified by a file:/... URL. This renders giving

My environment: ubuntu 6.06; gift-0.1.15b; charmer-0.2b
When I try to connect to gift server, I can't see any images in the
frame.when I click "collection" or "method" field on the charmer,there
are nothing happened.
some error occured both at  sever-end (where I start gift)and
client-end(where I start Charmer).
