[help-GIFT] problems compiling gift-0.1.9+3epsilon on freebsd 4.8

hi,

i tried to compile gift-0.1.9+3epsilon on freebsd 4.8 and when using 'make' 
i got this error:

i've to admit that i don't have much knowledge in compiling, makefiles, etc 
it's more like a butcher trying surgery. so i'm totally stuck at the moment.

before, i had some problems making configure to finish without errors:

config.status: linking ./lib/gnugetopt.h to lib/getopt.h
config.status: error: ./lib/gnugetopt.h: file not found

i solved this by installing libgnugetopt-1.2, making a dir named 'lib' in 
the gift source dir and copy getopt.h from the libgnugetopt-1.2 
installation to gift-0.1.9+3epsilon/lib/gnugetopt.h

at least configure didn't report the error any longer..

anyone else had success compiling gift on freebsd? 5.x would be fine too, 
just wanna know befor upgrading.
i'd be very happy for any hints.
