Dear listmembers,
I've been trying to migrate to the newest version
of GNU Emacs - 22.3 unsuccessfully for the last 4 days - it crashes on
random intervals b/n 0 and 15 seconds after started all the time. I was
a user of Xemacs, but now want to get Emacs to work...
System - Vista SP1.
I've
followed all of the installation instructions, have downloaded the
zipped binaries from more than one location, have used 2 different
archival tools to unzip them, have set the HOME variable to pretty much
everything, have run it with and without an .emacs file, have tried
just about every option by running emacs.exe from the command prompt,
even tried Vincent Goulet's bundle (http://vgoulet.act.ulaval.ca/en/ressources/emacs/windows) and SAME PROBLEM. It just keeps on crashing on and
on - with
Vista's "GNU Emacs has stopped working... looking for a solution" crap. Please help, much appreciated! I'll run whatever tests/debuging stuff you need me to...

Account User Control is turned off and I don't think my anti-virus
software is causing the problem either. Are there any services that are
necessary for emacs to run? I have a few of those disabled...
