Although the response from Benjamin Riefenstahl is probaly more
appropriate in your case, for the record, you can do this:

C-S C-Q 3 7 4 RET

374 is octal for 0xFC

Alternatively, if you change variable read-quoted-char to 16, you can
do this instead:

C-S C-Q f c RET
