Why is the default setting 5? Does your mouse have two extra buttons 
(usually on the sides)? If so, you might be able to use one of those as 
mouse-2. I think function-key-map might help with this, eg:

(add-to-list 'function-key-map '(mouse-4 [mouse-2]))
