There are benefits to compiling from source :-)

One benefit is that you now have cygwin and access to all of those
applications that you can then run/access from within Emacs i.e. diff,
ispell, cvs etc.

Access to external utilities such as these are one of the powerful features
of Emacs IMO :-)

Having said that, I had trouble compiled Emacs 21.3 from source when it
first came out due to a bug in the source code, somebody kindly emailed me a
patch (the fix was in the CVS respository but you can't access savanah or
sourceforge repositories from behind company firewalls). I can't find the
patch, so if the problem is still there you would have to ask for the patch
on this list or get the patched file from the repository (assuming you can
access it :-)).

I don't see any followups to this message of October 10.  As of today (over
1
month later!), the gnu ftp site has not been updated.

Are there any other locations for precompiled windows binaries, or must one
compile from source oneself using cygwin?
