[h-e-w] win2k non-stop retries to create directory on c:/.emacs.d

I solved my problem by creating a bat file to start emacs.  It looks like
this:

set HOME="d:\home\MyUserName"
D:\Emacs\emacs-21.2\bin\runemacs.exe

apparently my win2k doesn't properly set any username in the environment.
