The advantage of doing it in .emacs is that a .emacs can easily be
copied from one system to another. Copying a registry entry is much
harder ... especially if the destination is not a Windows system. :-)
The redraw ugliness is a one time thing. gnuserv users who rarely
restart emacs won't notice it.
