A command-line version of CVS (Cygwin or native port from
www.cvshome.org) will integrate best with Emacs.
Once you have a copy of the source from the repository, you can just
work on it while offline, and CVS takes care of merging your changes
back into the repository. Unlike RCS, you do not need to see into the
future to know which files to check out before you go offline. CVS
also works very efficiently over a modem.
