The . and 12 is the information for emacs (perhaps only 20.7 ???) where to
place the cursor, if you want to extend the command before shooting it off.
Cause I do not want to do this, your solution works for me.

This should work:
(setq compile-command "ant -emacs ")
I'm not sure what all the gyrations with the lisp, and the .
and the 12 are for.
