It still works in 20.7 also.  

(But I never knew emacs would do that!  From my point
of view, it is kind of an odd way to operate as I
start emacs at startup and I rarely kill the process
until I shut down.  I would just use dired-mark-files-
regexp in the appropriate directory.)
