First off, I'm sorry for top-posting.  I'm still using my old email client.

As far as ideas for the fringe, I'd imagine eval-region or eval-buffer
putting a marker in the fringe at the first line at which an error occurs.

Or maybe it does that already?

The fringe took some getting used to...but it does provide useful
information...wonder what some inventful guy will think of a use for it
next?...any ideas?....
