The keystroke combination you want is
C-h i
(Control h followed by a lower case i). C-h I brings up the function
describe-input-method.
Most of the functionality of dired applies equally well to single files
as well as to all the marked files. For example, pressing
R
renames the file on which the cursor is. If a number of files are
marked, pressing R will rename all of the files, i.e, allow you to move
the files to another directory. If you have files which have been
marked but want to act on only one file, preceed the command with a C-u.
