   I think you also need to mention that you need to manually run
   autoconf in the unpacked libtool tarball - a normal ./configure won't
   help for obvious reasons.

i've added the equivalent warning to the cvs version of guile (both
stable and unstable branches).  feel free to suggest a better wording.

   Btw. is there already an official libtool release which was
   configured with autoconf 2.50.

i'm not aware of any such beast, although i haven't looked in
/address@hidden:gnu/libtool recently.  maybe next time i'm
connected...
