scm_* equivalent of gh_scm2newstr

Since the gh_* interface is deprecated, I'm wondering what users of
gh_scm2newstr should do when migrating from gh_.  Is there any
intention to provide a comparable scm_* replacement?

... it's just that in C++ and the like, you don't trust _anybody_,
and in CLOS you basically trust everybody.  The practical result
is that thieves and bums use C++ and nice people use CLOS.
