Actually, I think what I'd really intended was
branch_root_FOO
branch_FOO
branch_merge_FOO_to_BAR
so branch is a "primitive, and it might be modified by merge or root.
However, in order to avoid possible conflicts, I see that we might
really need
branch_root_FOO
branch_tag_FOO
branch_merge_FOO_to_BAR
But it doesn't really matter to me, so unless anyone has a preference,
I'll go with your suggestion of
branch_FOO
branch-root_FOO
branch-merge_FOO_to_BAR
