apparently, `guile-core' and other related cvs modules, upon any commit,
feed a diff to the guile-cvs mailing list.  btw, you can see all the gnu
lists (that are archived) at:

  http://mail.gnu.org/pipermail/

i suspect that the CVSROOT/commitinfo dispatch, if indeed this is where
the call to diff lives, doesn't take into account branch, but cannot
confirm this because i don't have privs to do "cvs co CVSROOT".  sigh.
