Build problems with stable branch

I'm trying to build the stable CVS branch. I upgraded to autoconf 2.50
and libtool 1.4, but I still get this when I run configure:

updating cache /dev/null
./../ltconfig: ./../ltconfig: No such file or directory
configure: error: libtool configure failed
configure: error: /bin/sh './configure' failed for libltdl

Any idea what I can do to fix this?
