Grub2 menu uses (hd1,1) in grub.cfg (this is done by grub automatically) while when I use menu.lst which I build by hand things happen rightly.
Due to using (hd1,1) if I go to grub2 menu and click on any of the kernels I get grub error 15.
This is the content of device map

Adding both /boot/grub/grub.cfg as well as /boot/grub/menu.lst so one knows the difference and can fix the stuff.

One of the things I understand its an old snapshot of a developing tool so the issue I have mentioned may have been resolved as well.
Please lemme know if you need any other information as well.
I have put up the bug at launchpad as well
