I recommend that you remove these lines:

font (hd1,1)/usr/share/grub/unifont.pff
set gfxmode=640x480
insmod gfxterm
insmod vbe
terminal gfxterm

You will enter text mode, but this is not an issue since you're not using
any non ascii characters.
