I have to admit that I have only ever produced Postscript from groff (and
troff before that) and then displayed that Postscript directly, sent that
same Postscript to the printer, or converted that Postscript to PDF with
something else. 30+ year old habits die hard.
That approach to your Postscript output produces no black shadow.
