[Groff] Writing Unicode characters in `groff'

Is it possible to write general Unicode letters in `groff'?

There was a discussion before the groff-Unicode time for
using something like \U'XXXX' and the like at:

Has something been done with that or will be done something similar?
How about getting some complete free Unicode code?
