I thought (so but found) the value was gaining the option of
verifying that the `uninstall' target works properly.  (Without
(a) messing my /usr/local and (b) gaining too much knowledge about
GNU autotools that is.)
But the overall very best way is, generally speaking, maybe
unfortunately,
