man(1) needs certain extensions, that's not groff's business and man's
man pages already describe its needs.  For everything else there's
decades of varying convention, much of it by, now, crotchety old fogies,
myself included, that dislike some new prescription coming along.

Another man page is not automatically a good thing just because it's
more documentation.  Someone learning groff would probably not struggle
if they came across foo.ms or bar.eqn to recognise the significance, and
I also think it's quite rare for preprocessor source to be in its own
file with suffix anyway.
