RE: [Groff] eqn matrix?

I got perfect results after mouse-copying your code into groff.
The error message you suggests that some invisible stray byte[s]
got into your file immediately after "matrix { " (which did
not come through in your mail, by the way).

Check what is in your file with an octal or hex file editor
or scanner!
