\Z'...' is your friend.  It makes the stuff in the quotes have no effect
on the current position.

Don't think it does, see below.

I'd suggest drawing the circle then move back into it to draw the
number.

    foo \v'-0.3v'\D'c (u;\nw*3/2)'\v'0.3v'\
