[Groff] Re: Manuals in pdf format

    BTW, a footer string as defined with @xxxfooting jumps up and down
    within the output -- this is *really* ugly, and I consider it as a
    severe typographical bug (I use texinfo 4.8).

I cannot reproduce this with the current texinfo.tex
(ftp://tug.org/tex/texinfo.tex).  I added your lines:

  @headings off
  @evenheading @| @| @thischapter
  @oddheading @thissection @| @|
  @evenfooting @thispage @| @| @thistitle
  @oddfooting @thistitle @| @| @thispage

to groff.texinfo after the @end titlepage and ran make pdf, as you
suggested, but the new footer seemed steady to me.

It seems a bit strange to me, since I don't recall making any changes
about this since 4.8. But I didn't really check.

If you see the problem (or any others) with the current texinfo.tex,
please send details (like which page is wrong).

Thanks,
Karl
