On my GNU/Linux box, using gs 8.53 too, pdfmark.pdf compiles just
fine. Probably a MacOSX problem with gs?
BTW, it would be nice if pdfroff has a --keep option which retains all
intermediate files. It would be then easier to locate the problematic
spot in the PS->PDF conversion step.
