Do you mean output text?

You cannot expect to tell from the input text whether groff was
called in "unsafe" mode, since groff has not necessarily been
called at all, whatever the contents of the text.

You may be able to tell from the input text whether groff
*should* be called in unsafe mode, since certain requests
(e.g.  .open, .opena, .pso, .sy, and .pi) will only work
in unsafe mode. However, without looking at the output,
you cannot tell whether it *was* so called.

You would be able to tell, from the output text, whether
groff had been called in unsafe mode for input text with
such requests, since the output will be different between
safe and unsafe modes.
