It can be easily checked whether a spam mail has been distributed
directly via the groff list: Just look into the mailing list archive
(which I right now can't do since I'm offline). Unfortunately some
mails are distributed by the mailman program which don't show up in
the archive -- at least it looks like that. This appears to be a
severe mailman bug, and I really hope that the FFII administrators
find some time to do an update.

I doubt that -- ffii.org is operated as a GNU/Linux box.

This is something which I've apparently missed since I answer *all*
emails which need (or deserve) an answer. Sorry for that, and thanks
for the offer.

I'm now rather convinced that I will move the list -- since groff is a
GNU project, the natural mail server is mail.gnu.org. IIRC, the GNU
people will install advanced spam filters in the near future (or they
have already done this); as soon as this happens, the move will be
done.
