Historical reasons only.  Noone has yet volunteered to change that
(it is non-trivial).

PS output is PS output is PS output :-)

Yes, provided you add your new fonts to font/devps/download.
Unfortunately, grops isn't sophisticated enough to do font subsetting,
so you get rather large output files.
