Can someone please verify this assumption by using acrobat distiller
for the conversion PS->PDF? The same for \[lh] -- I definitely know
that gs 8 has a bug and doesn't mirror the \[rh] glyph.

Here a test document:

  \[*a]\[lh]
  .br
  \f[S]\[*a]\f[]\[rh]

My 6.51 displays the PS output fine; the ps2pdf output is almost OK:
the right hand symbol is properly mirrored but the position is wrong.

8.00 is worse: In PS output, the right hand symbol is mirrored but the
horizontal position is wrong. With ps2pdf, the right hand symbol has
the wrong position and isn't mirrored, and the alpha is doubly
slanted.

What a mess. Isn't there an 8.1 release of gs already which fixes the
most serious bugs?
