BTW: why is $groff/configure in the CVS ? configure is a generated file and 
this can only lead to problems of synchronization between the configure.in 
and the configure file (it's like putting an object file into CVS). Most free 
source projects don't put the configure in CVS but generate the configure 
script whenever they release tarballs of a new version.
