Ah, thanks, I didn't realize this. This is not part of the groff distribution,
right? It's not on my system at least...

Hmmm... this is true and it would increase the likelihood that the checking
stays up to date -- when it's in a separate package, people adding or
modifying macros need to remember to also hit the check* tool when appropriate.
On the other hand, when one has a large doc build to do, it's nice to be able
to run a checking tool first to verify the sanity of the source.
