I fear that \[ell2] doesn't solve `!..' and `?..' correctly from a
typographical point of view; you have to write `!\|\[ell2]' or
something like this -- it is really shorter to type `!\|.\|.', isn't
it? To solve this correctly, we have to define \[?..] and \[!..]
anyway. So I see no point in implementing \[ell2].
[Ideally, typing `?...' and `!...' should be sufficient, for example
using ligatures:
?... -> \[?..]
!... -> \[!..]
... -> \[...]
etc.
Unfortunately, groff doesn't support this (yet).]
